Who We Are > Cooperative Leaders

The
members of Sam Houston Electric Cooperative nominate and elect
11 fellow members who comprise our Board of Directors. These
directors establish the policies and manage the business affairs
of the cooperative.
To maintain fair representation, directors
are elected from each of the five Sam Houston Electric Cooperative
districts and serve staggered terms of three years, as set
forth in our bylaws
(pdf).
A nominating committee, made up of members
from the same district where a director's term expires, is
appointed during the Board's regular September meeting. This
committee must meet and prepare a list of nominees. Nominations
may also be made by petition, or from the floor at the Annual
Meeting.
Election of directors will be held at each
Annual Meeting. Members are encouraged
to vote for their choice of directors, either in person or
by proxy. A member's right to vote allows him/her to have
a voice in the leadership of the Cooperative. Each member,
whether residential or corporate, has one vote.
The Board of Directors meets monthly at the
Sam Houston Electric Cooperative offices in Livingston, or
as otherwise determined by the Board. Additional special meetings
are held as deemed necessary. Directors do not receive salary
but are allowed a per diem to cover expenses for meetings
attended.
Because Members of Sam Houston Electric Cooperative's
management team are also Sam Houston Electric Cooperative
members, you can be sure everything we do are in our members'
best interests.
