J-Mar Farms*
With more than 200 animals to see at
the petting farm and playground, J-Mar farms also features
pony rides, fishing, hay rides, paddle boats and lots of family
fun.
Hours: Spring-Summer, daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fall-Winter, daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lake Conroe*
Where it lies: Take
TX 105 west 7 miles
How big?: 21,000-acres, 157 miles of shoreline
(northern 50 miles being Sam Houston National Forest, 100
miles fringed with campgrounds, boat ramps, homes, marinas
and resort centers)
Why go?: Have never-ending fun and relaxation
at Lake Conroe because it never closes. Southern
Empress paddlewheeler tours, Monday-Sunday, depending on calendar.

W. Goodrich Jones State Forest*
This 1,725-acre forest is named for
the founder of the Texas Forestry Association. Bring your
hiking
shoes, bathing suits, fishing poles and picnic baskets because
this forest provides facilities for outdoor
daytime activities.
Although the Forest never closes, come on
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the Sweetleaf Nature
Trail. Free guidebooks are available at the entrance. Directions:
Take I-45 south to FM 1488, then west about 2.3 miles, 409-273-2261.
N.H. Davis Pioneer Museum
Featuring period vignettes with furnishings
and accessories dating from 1840 to 1890, as well as Montgomery
