The Sam Houston Memorial Museum
The Sam Houston Memorial Museum is located at the corner of 19th St. and Avenue N in Huntsville, Texas. Dedicated to the life and times of Sam Houston, former governor of Tennessee, victor over Santa Anna, first President of the Republic of Texas, Senator from Texas, and Governor of Texas. Hours of operation are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

General Sam Houston Folk Festival
Every April at the Sam Houston Memorial Complex. Celebration of the Life and Times of General Sam Houston. Lifeskill demonstrations, authentic 19th century dress, continuous entertainment, hands-on children's activities and much more. For information phone: 936-294-1832

Huntsville State Park
The heavily-wooded park adjoins the Sam Houston National Forest and encloses the 210-acre Lake Raven. The park offers camping, hiking, biking, boating, miniature golf, horseback riding, fishing, swimming in unsupervised swimming area, boat rentals, and nature study. The park is 6 miles southwest of Huntsville off Interstate 45 on Park Road 40. For information phone 936-295-5644

Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center
This spectacular monument, A Tribute to Courage, is the worlds tallest statue of an American Hero. Sam Houston was an accomplished statesman who was twice President of Texas, a US Senator for Texas and he helped to make Texas a state. He was also the Commander in Chief of the Army of the Republic of Texas, and served as Governor of Tennessee and of Texas. He truly was the hero of San Jacinto. Exit 109 or 112 on I-45 South.
