Meet Our Storytellers

James Walker (Service Scientist)
Sam Houston EC Member Services Representative

James Walker, along with our 22 other Member Services Representatives, has made a science of customer service. James’ formula for successful service is a genuine understanding of member needs, mixed with a dose of knowledge of how to meet their needs efficiently. Despite the fact he’s personally juggling as many as 70 calls a day taking care of members’ electric service needs, answering billing questions or offering advice on member service options, he gives every member he talks to his full attention – as though they are the only customer on his mind.

Cloy Baxley (Inspector ‘Cloy’seau)
Sam Houston EC Staking Supervisor

Ever stop to think about how exactly power gets from Sam Houston EC’s lines to your microwave, front porch light or computer? Cloy Baxley and the other Sam Houston EC Inspectors are the brains behind the electric path to your home. Cloy is always on the case. He visits with customers personally, deciphers electric needs, outlines a master plan for delivering power and ensures everything is completed to specification. And he does it with a healthy sense of humor that keeps even the most challenging installations “light,” so to speak. Cloy does whatever it takes to get the job done.

Rosemary Stephens (Master Multi-Tasker)
Sam Houston EC Mobile Data/Dispatch Supervisor

Thanks to Sam Houston EC’s comprehensive mapping system, Rosemary Stephens knows exactly where all of Sam Houston EC’s 62 field personnel are, where they’re going and where they’ve been. Known as the “master multi-tasker,” Rosemary juggles the Co-op’s field personnel to ensure member requests are fulfilled as quickly as possible. Whether she’s programming linemen’s laptops, processing engineering data or manning the dispatch desk, “Rosie” jumps on it like a duck on a June bug. In other words, she doesn’t waste any time in getting whatever “it” is done, and done right.

Joel Prothro (Super Lineman)
Sam Houston EC First Class Line Technician

Joel Prothro is one of the Sam Houston EC Line Technicians who literally risk life and limb working with voltage as high as 14,400 volts to come to the rescue of Sam Houston EC members in need. Joel’s “super power” is a mix of regular safety training and close to 30 years on the job. But besides canvassing his portion of our 4,000 square mile service area each day, taking care of voltage problems, repairing security lights and mending lines, Joel takes a few extra minutes to chat with a member. He goes out of his way to help however he can. That’s what’s truly super about Joel.

Teresa Patterson (The Hummingbird)
Sam Houston EC Data Records Coordinator

Behind the scenes at our Sam Houston EC offices are many people who help keep everything working smoothly. Teresa Patterson is one of those people. Like a hummingbird that moves so fast you can’t even see its wings, Teresa is literally a blur. Flitting about with endless energy, Teresa and her team receive and process up to 5,000 payments per day. She flies from department to department, serving as an extra hand to answer phones, an able body to assist in accounting and a genius at researching member history. Teresa is a living example of cooperation – the core of our business – at its best.

Tommy Clifton (Right-of-Way Wizard)
Sam Houston EC Right-of-Way Foreman

Ever noticed how trees along power lines are perfectly straight and neatly trimmed away from the wires? Without the wizardry of Tommy Clifton and the Sam Houston EC right-of-way team, Mother Nature would undoubtedly subject our members to less reliable service. Thanks to tree-trimming magician Tommy and his crews, the Co-op removed over 12,000 trees last year and trimmed as much as 2 miles a day. Their work is an organized, continuous and preventative maintenance effort so precise, you may not even notice it’s happening. But like sleight of hand, the end result is amazing!
