PUC Establishes Telemarketing "Do Not Call" List

Now You Can Stop Telemarketing Calls

The Public Utility Commission has released information regarding the statewide "Do Not Call" list. As of January 1, 2002, residents will be able to add their names to one or both of two lists to be maintained by the PUC. Several major newspapers are already running stories about how to get on the lists.

The cost for the list that applies solely to retail electric providers is $2.55 for five years. The cost for the list that appliest to all telemarketers operating in the state is $2.25 for three years. Customers can pay $4.80 to be included on both lists for five years.

There are three ways to add your name to the list. You can fill out an online application at www.texasnocall.com; call the toll-free number provided by the PUC at 1-866-896-6225; or send a written request for a mail-in application to Texas No Call P.O. Box 313 E. Walpole, MA 02032. Further information about the list can be found at www.puc.state.tx.us under Hot Topic Briefs.
