Sam Houston EC Youth Holds Second Coat Drive

After a successful coat drive last year, the son of Sam Houston Electric Cooperative member service representative Lia Witt, decided to hold his second annual coat drive.

The youth collected 122 coats this year, far surpassing his goal of 100 coats.

Noah collected 71 coats for needy people in his first coat drive. Inspired after learning from his mother that Montgomery County Emergency Assistance was overwhelmed with requests for coats, the 9-year-old knew he could find a way to protect more people from the cold.

“Noah is the most selfless person I’ve ever known,” Witt said. “Last winter when he overheard that people were asking for coats, he immediately offered his own.”

Collection boxes were placed at the family's church, Round Prairie Baptist Church in Fairfield, and at Sam Houston EC this year.

“I am proud of Noah, not just because he wanted to help his community, but because he continues to want to help,” Witt said.

When asked about his project, Noah had a simple reply: “It’s about helping people.”

This year, the coats were donated to MCEA and Community Action in Livingston.
