Message from the CEO

Our constant focus is to provide you with safe, reliable electricity at competitive rates. Please take time to review this 2016 Annual Report. It provides you with insights into how we have worked to serve you, our members, throughout 2016 and into 2017.

In 2016 our wholesale power costs decreased for the second year in a row, which was reflected in the “Energy” charge you see on your monthly electric bill. It’s too early to know the impact the new administration in Washington will have on energy prices. For now, however, it appears that regulations will be eased, allowing us to utilize more of our generating resources, which will help control costs.

We are beginning to see modest growth in our area. Costs for new line extensions and replacement of aging Co-op facilities all contributed to an increase in operating costs in 2016. Your board and management are continuing to take a strategic approach in addressing operating expenses. After all, our directors are members just like you, so they keep the best interests of all members in mind as they guide your Cooperative.


2016 was a banner year for Sam Houston Electric Cooperative in member satisfaction. Thank you for rating us 87 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index. That is not only among the highest in our industry, it is also among the highest in all industries.
