Christmas is a season for giving and sharing. Employees at Sam Houston Electric Cooperative have generously ensured that a local family can have a Christmas to remember.
Through the Empty Stocking Program, Cooperative’s employees helped to ensure a grandmother will be able to provide presents to her three grandchildren she is caring for this winter. Cooperative employees raised over $750 for presents and groceries.
“I think it is amazing the employees can do this for those that would otherwise go without (this Christmas),” said Jennifer Angel, new construction representative. “I have little ones myself, so I know how important it is for younger children to have something from Santa or other gifts under the tree.”
Jeff Sloan, member services supervisor, volunteered his time to assemble the bikes for the children.
“It is enjoyable to help,” Sloan said. “We take things for granted and it is a great opportunity to give back and help.”
According to Stephanie Spore, member services representative, the Cooperative has adopted a family for the last 15 years.
“It is a great way for the Cooperative to give back and help a family in need that would probably not have a Christmas otherwise,” Spore said.
