Each year, Sam Houston Electric Cooperative employees donate to the Empty Stocking Program, which helps low-income families provide Christmas gifts for their children.
Employees planned to sponsor one family, but the generous donations totaling over $1,000 made it possible to sponsor a second family. The first family is a single parent with five children, and the second family is a woman raising her grandson, following his mother’s recent death.
The floor by the Christmas trees in the Co-op’s call center was covered with presents for the two families. In addition to presents, each family received gift cards for groceries.
Founded in 1998, the Empty Stocking program is sponsored by the Livingston Interagency Council—a network of social service agencies that provide various forms of assistance throughout Polk County.
We wish these families and all of our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
