Representatives from Sam Houston Electric Cooperative visited two of our favorite members, Béla and Martha Károlyi, Wednesday evening.
The Károlyis happened to be joined by 13 of the top gymnasts in the United States, including two-time World All-Around Champion Simone Biles, 2012 Olympic All-Around Champion Gabrielle Douglass and Olympic Floor Exercise Champion Aly Raisman.
The renowned coaches invited community leaders to cheer on gymnasts competing for spots on the 2015 World Championship Team. The event was held at the Karolyi Ranch, a U.S. Olympic Training Site in the Sam Houston National Forest. The center has been the training site for the Women’s Team since 1999. Nearly 3,000 athletes, coaches and staff visit our service area each year for the training site.
We watched the athletes compete in floor routine, vault, uneven bars and on the balance beam. Their talent and dedication to their craft was awe-inspiring.
The World Gymnastic Championships will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from Oct. 23-Nov. 1. We wish all of them the best of luck!
