Sam Houston Electric Cooperative Remains Prepared as Gulf Disturbance Develops

Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at 5:00 P.M.

After less than 48 hours of restoration work following Tropical Storm Edouard, Sam Houston EC line technicians, contractors and vegetation crews have fewer than 50 meters to restore of the 20,000 meters without service following the storm.

Even with this steady progress, your Cooperative will not stop until power is restored to every member that can safely receive service.

We are grateful for you, our members, for everyone on our Cooperative team, and all those who have come from across the state to help restore power to our members.

As a reminder, please do not report outages via social media. For an outage to be logged into our system, more information is required. Outages can only be entered by calling (888) 444-1207 or by reporting it in your mySamHouston app or website.

Sam Houston EC crews and contractors have restored service to more than 16,000 consumer-members. Additional storm bands from Edouard have caused new outages and increased flooding risks, but crews will be working through the night to restore service to the remaining 3,900 members.

As crews are restoring service, they are reporting serious damage, such as fallen trees and downed power lines. Often there are multiple locations that need repair along a single stretch of line. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, at 3 P.M.

Crews and contractors have restored more than 11,000 consumer-members following Edouard’s slow path through our service area. Additional crews have joined in the restoration effort to restore power to the remaining 8,200 members.

There are 423 crew members in the field working to restore service to all consumer-members, and more mutual aid crews are on the way from other cooperatives across the state.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, at 8 A.M. 

Sam Houston EC crews worked through the night as Edouard moves across our service territory. More than 19,000 consumer-members experienced an outage, but crews have restored more than 2,000 meters so far. Additional crews are on their way to assist.

Tropical Storm Edouard is impacting the eastern portion of Sam Houston EC's service area near Kountze, Honey Island and Ivanhoe. Crews are working to restore outages in the area where it is safe to do so.

The storm is expected to continue on a northwest track overnight and into the morning hours.

Tropical Storm Edouard is approaching East Texas, and Sam Houston Electric Cooperative consumer-members can trust that the Cooperative is prepared. Our team has been monitoring forecasts, staging resources, and following our Emergency Operations Plan.

Sam Houston EC crews are on standby, as well as additional line contractors. As always, safety is our top priority, and crews are ready to respond to outages when it is safe to do so.
