Hurricane Harvey Update: Friday, September 1, 8 a.m.

Entergy is working to repair their transmission line that went out of service last night around 9:00 p.m., affecting electricity consumers from Orange, up through Newton and Jasper Counties, and across Tyler and into northern Polk County.

The power that Sam Houston EC supplies to our members travels on Entergy’s electricity “interstate highway” as it is transported from power generating plants to our service area. As Sam Houston EC receives the power at our substations, it goes onto our distribution system, where we then deliver it to our Co-op members.

As of yesterday evening, Sam Houston EC crews had restored service to the vast majority of our service area where floodwaters had receded and it was safe to deliver electricity. As of this morning, most of the 9,000 Co-op members without power are being affected by the transmission outage. At this time, we have no definite estimated time of restoration from Entergy. However, we anticipate that areas will begin coming back online throughout the day after repairs are completed.

Sam Houston EC engineering and operations staff are communicating closely with Entergy, and as information regarding restoration progress becomes available we will pass it along to our Co-op members. Thank you for your patience.
