Storm Update: April 28 at 5 p.m.

Sam Houston Electric Cooperative crews have restored power to 31,000 members following yesterday’s early morning storm.

“While not quite on the scale as a hurricane, damage from this storm has been very similar, with many broken poles, snapped crossarms, downed power lines and lightning-related problems,” Chief Operations Officer David Babcock said. “In several areas, our guys are finding hundreds of feet of lines laying on the ground, with seven or eight broken poles."

"Crews have made excellent progress over the past 36 hours," Babcock added. "Cutting trees off the lines is a dangerous and time consuming job that is necessary before the lines can be rebuilt. The tree crews and our line technicians have done a great job, and they will continue working to restore service to those who remain without power.”

As of 5:00 p.m. Thursday crews are still working to restore power to 2,978 Cooperative members.
