Cooperative Month

#ServingBeyond

National Cooperative Month was first celebrated in October 1930 to highlight the qualities that make electric cooperatives, and cooperatives of all types, different from other businesses.

Cooperatives are owned by those they serve. Members maintain democratic control, which means they elect fellow members to represent them on the board of directors. Co-ops are more accessible than other types of businesses. They give their members a voice and are local—living and working alongside those they serve. That’s the cooperative difference.

Last October we wanted to honor the responsibility our Co-op has to support the areas in which our members live and work. With this in mind, we expanded our celebration of National Co-op Month by volunteering across our service area. From sharing energy efficiency information at local fairs to visiting schools to teach children about electrical safety, employees fanned out across the service area to thank our members.
