Monitoring Your Electricity Usage
With Sam Houston Electric Cooperative’s metering system, members have access to detailed data about their energy use in real time. This helps you identify ways to use less electricity and reduce your monthly bills.
You’ll see electricity usage data presented in chart and table form. You’ll be able to view kWh (kilowatts consumed) and daily temperatures. The data can be broken down by month, week, day, or billing cycle. You’ll also notice an actual cost calculated for each day.
Here’s what to look for:
Are there unexpected patterns in your usage or daily costs?
Were your daily activities different on those days? (i.e. family stayed home, extra guests, laundry day)
Was the temperature higher or lower on those days, causing the a/c or heat to run extra?
Using the Budget Gauge Tool
Your mySamHouston account offers a Budget Gauge tool that allows you to set and track a monthly target to help avoid unexpected bills.
By setting your usage budget, you can quickly track how you are trending towards that goal.
Days highlighted in green are right on target to meet your goal.
Days highlighted in yellow or red are higher usage days that may push the threshold of your budget.
To adjust your Budget Gauge log on to mySamHouston. Click on “My Usage” and then “Plan and Save.”

Sign up for email or text message alerts.
Register your cell phone, landline, or email address with us, and we’ll make sure you stay in the loop.
Set up your own alert preferences, and we’ll let you know when your bill is due, a payment is received, or even when you’re close to your desired monthly electricity usage.
